A delivery address may be considered remote or hard to reach if a large commercial freight truck cannot access it easily or safely. Examples include remote locations, narrow or unpaved roads, steep driveways, low clearances, tight turns, gated communities, and ferry-only destinations. Additional charges may apply based on the third-party carrier’s classification and may not be included in the original shipping cost.
What is considered a remote or hard-to-reach delivery area?
Large freight trucks need enough clearance, road width, and turning space to deliver safely. An address may be considered hard to reach if it has narrow or unpaved roads, a steep driveway, low clearance, tight turns, limited street access, or another condition that could make delivery unsafe.
Standard freight delivery stops at the nearest safe, accessible curbside or public roadway. The driver may decline to enter private property or continue down an unsafe road if the truck could become stuck, damage property or equipment, or be unable to turn around.
What happens if the freight truck cannot reach my address?
You will need to pick up your order from the carrier’s local freight terminal or provide an alternate address that a large commercial freight truck can safely access.
Are there additional charges for hard-to-reach delivery areas?
Possibly. The third-party carrier determines whether an address is classified as remote or hard to reach and whether an additional fee applies. These charges may not be included in your original shipping cost. If a fee is assessed, Clay Imports will provide the amount before delivery.
